Lidl GB has announced a new weekly initiative called Wellness Wednesdays, launching on 30 July 2026 and running until 2 September 2026. Through the Lidl Plus app, customers will receive 10% off a product from the Live Well range every Wednesday.
Research Highlights Cost Barriers to Healthy Eating
New research commissioned by Lidl GB reveals that almost seven in 10 people believe eating healthily comes at a higher cost. Nearly half of respondents admitted they had chosen a less healthy option because it was cheaper.
To address this, Lidl has partnered with chef Miguel Barclay, creator of the One Pound Meals series, to launch seven new £1 Planet Plate recipes. These recipes use simple, affordable ingredients available in Lidl stores and are designed to help shoppers create balanced, healthier meals.
Planetary Health Diet Principles
The recipes are inspired by the Planetary Health Diet, a guide developed by scientists to promote eating habits that support both human health and the environment. The diet encourages small, easy swaps such as increasing plant-based protein (beans, pulses, lentils), choosing one wholegrain daily, adding more fruit and vegetables, and keeping favourite meals but adding more balance.
Richard Bourns, Chief Commercial Officer at Lidl GB, said: “Our research shows people want to make healthier and more sustainable choices for the planet, but often affordability stands in the way. At Lidl GB, we’re breaking down those barriers by proving that market leading value can go hand-in-hand with making foods encouraged by the Planetary Health Diet more affordable and accessible.”
Miguel Barclay added: “I’ve always believed that great food doesn’t have to come with a big price tag. The key is making the most of simple, affordable ingredients and knowing how to bring them together in a way that’s delicious and balanced. These £1 Planet Plate recipes show how little changes, such as adding more vegetables and beans, can be easy to create at home, without compromising on flavour or affordability.”
The Live Well range already includes a marker to help shoppers identify products that support health and planetary well-being.
