The Kielder Circular, a 2.6-mile walking route in Northumberland, has been named one of the UK's top 10 night time hikes for 2026 by outdoor clothing specialists Blacks. The route, which starts from Hawkhope car park, finished in 10th place on the list, with an overall score of 7.78.
How the Rankings Were Decided
Blacks used AllTrails user ratings, trail difficulty, elevation gain and sky darkness to compile the top 10. The Kielder Circular, rated as 'moderate' difficulty on AllTrails, holds a review score of 4.6 out of 5 and is described as 'suitable for a wide range of ages and fitness levels'.
The list was topped by the Glentrool; Water of Trool trail in Galloway Forest Park, with Loch Morlich in the Cairngorms in second and Friar's Crag in Keswick in third. The Usk Reservoir Circular took 9th place, just ahead of the Kielder route.

Reviewers highlight the amazing views, varied trail and great wildlife as standout features of the Kielder Circular. One recent visitor posted: 'Little bit overgrown in places and some fallen trees to climb over but generally a lovely walk with some amazing views!'
The region is well known for stargazing, particularly around the famous Kielder Observatory, making the route a strong choice for night hikes. The route is one of many in Northumberland, which offers rolling hills, castles and windswept beaches for walkers.
