GRID Braehead launches £5 dementia-friendly day out

GRID Braehead is launching a £5 day out for people living with dementia, their families and the wider community on Thursday, October 1. The initiative, run in collaboration with Scottish dementia-inclusive charity Weekday Wow Factor, offers activities and lunch options at the indoor leisure and entertainment destination in Braehead.

The partnership officially launches on October 1 as part of Communities Day, with a range of £5 activities and lunch options available throughout the day. The event runs from 10am to 2pm, with tickets needing to be booked in advance.

Activities and lunch options

Visitors can choose from activities including adventure golf, bowling and fitness sessions, with £5 options available at Paradise Island Adventure Golf, Tenpin and Gravity Active. There will also be £5 lunch options at Wetherspoons, Gravity Active and Tenpin.

The initiative is particularly focused on creating a welcoming environment for older people, people living with dementia, their families and friends, while remaining open to the wider community.

Building on a decade of partnership

Weekday Wow Factor, a Scottish charity led by Occupational Therapy expertise, has been bringing people together at GRID Braehead for the past ten years. The new partnership builds on that relationship, combining GRID's leisure, food and entertainment offering with the charity's experience in creating dementia-inclusive experiences.

The aim is to give people the opportunity to take part at their own pace, with a friendly and supportive atmosphere for anyone who may feel less confident about heading out or trying a new activity.

What they said

Bruce Harley, Centre Manager at GRID Braehead, said: “We are incredibly proud to be partnering with Weekday Wow Factor to create enjoyable, accessible days out for people living with dementia, their families and the wider community. GRID Braehead is all about bringing people together through great leisure, food and entertainment, and this partnership helps ensure that everyone can feel welcome, supported and part of the experience.”

He added: "We’re looking forward to building on our longstanding relationship and welcoming the community for a brilliant day at the destination."

Pasna Sallis, Charity Lead at Weekday Wow Factor, said: “For ten years, GRID Braehead has given our community a place to connect, have fun and try something new. This partnership takes that shared spirit even further, combining the energy of the destination with our dementia-inclusive and Occupational Therapy expertise. We want everyone attending to feel confident coming along, knowing there will be a warm welcome, support where needed and plenty of opportunities to make happy memories together."

Advance booking is required for the £5 offers, with terms and conditions applying. The initiative launches on Thursday, October 1, at GRID Braehead in Glasgow.
