Binman Warns: Stop Putting Chewing Gum in Wrong Bins

A refuse worker known as The No1 Binman has issued a warning about a common mistake many households make: disposing of chewing gum in the wrong bin. Ashley, who has over 160,000 followers on TikTok, explained that chewing gum should never go in food waste or compost bins because it is not biodegradable.

In a recent video, Ashley responded to a viewer's question about chewing gum disposal. He stated that used gum belongs in general waste, as it cannot break down and contaminate compost or soil products. He also addressed gum wrappers, noting that their combination of paper and aluminium means they cannot be recycled and must also go in general waste.

Ashley advised residents to check their local council websites for an A-Z list of waste items. Most councils specify that chewing gum and its wrappers should be placed in general waste bins. Incorrect disposal could risk recycling collections being rejected.
