Suntory GB&I: One Year to DRS Launch, Collaboration Key

Today marks one year until the launch of the UK's Deposit Return Scheme, and Suntory Beverage & Food GB&I (SBF GB&I) has commented on the work needed over the next 12 months to ensure the scheme is simple and convenient for consumers from day one.

Preparing for the Scheme

SBF GB&I, the producer of Lucozade and Ribena, has long advocated for DRS and is preparing its business and brands for its introduction. Chief executive Elise Seibold believes the coming year will require close collaboration between producers, retailers, government and scheme administrator Exchange for Change to get return points ready, communicate clearly with consumers and remove unnecessary friction.

Priorities for the Coming Year

“With one year to go, the priority is making the UK's Deposit Return Scheme a simple, convenient experience for consumers from day one,” she said. “With considerable investment, over the next 12 months, producers and retailers will work with government and Exchange for Change to get return points ready, communicate clearly with consumers and remove unnecessary friction. Experience from established schemes shows what is possible when consumers understand the system and returning a container is easy.”

“We have long been advocates for DRS and we are preparing our business and our brands for its introduction. Getting the launch right means the UK will have a scheme that consumers trust, which supports higher recycling rates and shapes a more circular economy for our drinks containers.”
