Limescale on shower heads can be easily removed with a natural cupboard staple, according to a bathroom expert. The chalky substance, caused by hard water, can build up quickly and affect water flow.
Expert recommends white vinegar
Brian Toward, CEO of bathroom retailer Wholesale Domestic, suggests using distilled white vinegar to tackle the problem. He explains that the shower head is often neglected until grime becomes noticeable during a shower.
Around 60% of UK residents live in hard-water areas, which can accelerate limescale buildup on taps, kettles, and shower heads, he notes.
Simple soaking method
Toward advises placing the unscrewed shower head in a zip-lock bag filled with white vinegar, ensuring it is fully submerged. Let it soak for at least an hour, but not too long to avoid damage.
After soaking, remove the head, spray with disinfectant, and rinse with hot water to clear residue. Distilled white vinegar is available at retailers like Tesco and Aldi for around 35p.
