The Hyundai KONA Electric has become the latest vehicle to qualify for the full UK Electric Car Grant, meaning buyers now receive a £3,750 reduction on the price.
Under the Labour government's update to the scheme, the family SUV was previously eligible for a £1,500 discount. It now qualifies for the maximum £3,750 Band 1 grant, which brings the starting price down to £31,250 from over £35,000.
How the Electric Car Grant discount is applied
The grant is applied automatically at the point of sale, so motorists do not need to take any action to receive the money. The Office for Zero Emissions Vehicle (OZEV) discount is deducted when a buyer agrees to purchase a new vehicle.
Band 1 discounts of £3,750 are reserved for vehicles that meet the most stringent environmental supply chain criteria, ensuring the model qualifies under the strictest standards.

Hyundai's KONA was named Auto Express Car of the Year in 2023, receiving praise for its performance, ride and practicality. The model continues to be one of Europe's best-selling electric SUVs, with more than 100,000 units sold across Europe since its launch in 2017.

Battery options and range
The current second-generation KONA Electric is available with two battery choices. The standard 48.4kWh powertrain delivers up to 234 miles on a single charge, while the larger 65.4kWh unit produces 218PS and offers a WLTP range of 319 miles.
Hyundai is also continuing to support customers with a 0% APR finance offer alongside the grant.
