A binman has warned households that putting polystyrene in recycling bins could result in collections being halted. Ashley, known online as The No.1 Binman, shared a TikTok video urging people never to put polystyrene in their recycling bin as it cannot be recycled. The material is commonly found inside packaging boxes to protect delicate items during transit.

He captioned his viral video: "When Karen tries to hide the polystyrene in her recycling bin." The binman explained that incorrect disposal could mess with bin collections entirely. While polystyrene cannot be recycled, it can easily go in general waste bins instead. Many social media users confirmed this approach works.
One commenter said: "I checked on my council site, and they said you can put it in your black bin as it can't go out with recycling." However, some residents argued they would continue putting "whatever" they wanted in "either bin".
Other Warnings
The same binman also warned against putting vapes in general waste bins due to safety concerns. Vapes are classified as battery waste and electrical waste, making them dangerous to process in household rubbish. Disposable vapes were made illegal to sell in the UK in June, meaning proper disposal through WEEE collection is essential.
