Emergency services were called to the Llanwonno area of Rhondda Cynon Taf at around 4.30pm on Saturday after a wildfire broke out in woodland.
The fire, which has affected part of the Welsh Government Woodland Estate, has ripped through the equivalent of around 30 football pitches. Natural Resources Wales (NRW) has confirmed that the fire continues to burn.
More than 20 hectares affected
A spokesman for NRW said more than 20 hectares of land has been affected. He said: "Our officers are continuing to work alongside colleagues from South Wales Fire and Rescue Service as they respond to a wildfire affecting more than 20 hectares of land including part of the Welsh Government Woodland Estate in the Llanwono area of Rhondda Cynon Taf."
"We are on site providing specialist advice and operational support, including drone surveillance to help assess the fire's extent and support firefighting efforts. Working closely with our partners, we are helping to monitor the situation and minimise further impact. If you are affected by smoke, please keep windows and doors closed and follow public safety advice."
Firefighters remain on scene
On Sunday morning, South Wales Fire and Rescue Service said one fire crew was still on scene, dealing with any hotspots.
