New weekly quiz Name the Football Star launches

Star Gold has launched a new weekly quiz series called 'Name the Football Star' to bring fun to Monday mornings. Every Monday, premium subscribers will be challenged to identify famous footballers using only clues from their Wikipedia profiles.

How the quiz works

Players are given the footballer's list of senior career clubs, number of appearances, and goals scored — essentially the information on the right-hand side of a Wikipedia page. However, nationality and position are hidden. Participants must type the player's name; misspellings count as incorrect answers. Both full names and first or last names are accepted.

This week's challenge

The first edition features five footballers: most are linked to a club that has stayed in the top tier, one is a former fiery player from a bitter rival, and another has become a vocal TV and radio pundit since retiring.

Subscribers can test their knowledge by entering player names. After completing the quiz, they are encouraged to share scores and challenge friends and family. The quiz will return every Monday.
