Animal Protectors Shelter has turned traditional adoption on its head by letting dogs pick their new owners, inspired by AI-generated videos that went viral online. The rescue centre invited a group of hopeful adopters into a room and allowed the dogs to make the first move.
In a video shared on Instagram, the shelter said: 'We wanted to do a non-AI version of shelter dogs picking their owner.' The clip shows a dog excitedly racing around the room before locking onto one person, running straight over and jumping up at them.
The wholesome moment captured the attention of viewers, with one user joking: 'The most realistic thing about this is the dog wanting to choose everyone.' Another admitted: 'My brain: …and what if none of the dogs choose me (and then realise that’s what shelter dogs go through).' A third added: 'Shows up with my pockets full of sausages.'
Tech experts are warning that ultra-realistic AI videos are catching many people out, with new research finding only one in four humans can accurately spot when a video is made using AI. They note that AI videos often have issues with blinking eyes, hands and fingers, and lighting, and can struggle with the letters 'p' and 'b'.
