A non-scratch kitchen sponge pad, combined with a dash of washing-up liquid, can restore cloudy shower glass to a crystal-clear finish in under five minutes, according to a cleaning enthusiast who tested the method.
Simple hack outperforms glass cleaners
Nicola Roy, a writer for Spare Time, discovered the technique on TikTok after struggling with grimy shower glass. She had previously relied on glass cleaner and kitchen roll, but found the sponge method far more effective. The key is to use the soft side of the pad to avoid scratching the glass, applying washing-up liquid and working in circular motions.
Roy noted that the marks lifted away almost instantly, especially from the bottom of the glass where grime had built up. After rinsing and buffing with a fresh pad, the glass became so clear it was hard to see where it ended.
Cost-effective and eco-friendly alternative
A pack of three non-scratch sponge pads costs £6.99 on Amazon, or even less at discount stores like B&M and Home Bargains. This makes it a cheap alternative to specialised glass cleaners or squeegees. The method also reduces waste compared to using disposable kitchen roll.
Roy emphasised that the rougher side of the sponge should never be used on glass, as it can cause scratches. The entire cleaning process took no more than five minutes, delivering a streak-free shine.
