The RSPCA has issued an urgent plea to animal lovers, urging anyone considering getting a new pet to 'choose to adopt'. The appeal comes as the charity faces its busiest time of the year, with over 6,000 cat-related incidents reported since May.
Kitten Season Pressure
In a Facebook post, the RSPCA explained that its services are under 'immense pressure' during 'Kitten Season', which is when most kittens are born. From spring to autumn, rescues see a huge increase in pregnant cats and kittens coming into their care.
The charity highlighted that cat-related incidents have risen by 49% year-on-year, with 6,308 incidents recorded since May. This has put a huge strain on rehoming centres and branches, as thousands of vulnerable young cats and kittens enter their care.

The RSPCA urged the public to consider adopting a rescue cat, stating that giving a cat a second chance helps free up vital space for the next animal in urgent need. They also recommended neutering pets to prevent unwanted litters, noting that female cats can get pregnant as young as four months old.
