A fourth-round match at Wimbledon was temporarily halted on No. 1 Court after a spectator fell ill due to the extreme heat. Italian tennis star Flavio Cobolli stepped in to assist, bringing a bottle of water to the distressed fan.
Match Paused for Medical Incident
The disruption occurred during the clash between Cobolli and Australia's Alex De Minaur. Commentator James Burridge noted on the BBC: "It is very hot inside No.1 Court today and there's a disruption just behind the umpires' chair." Todd Woodbridge added: "We've got a fan who is feeling quite unwell. They're just going to take a moment to try to get her out of the stadium. She's up on her feet."
Cobolli's Gesture Praised
Burridge highlighted a compassionate moment: "A lovely touch from Cobolli, who took a bottle of water over there to make sure that she was OK." Temperatures were reported in the early 30s Celsius, with conditions expected to intensify as the tournament progresses. Stewards were commended for their swift response.
The incident underscores the challenges of extreme heat at Wimbledon, where matches can be suspended under the tournament's heat rule if conditions become dangerous for players or spectators.
