Hundreds of people across Merseyside flocked to coastal areas on Sunday, July 12, 2026, as temperatures reached 29C, with the hot weather expected to persist throughout the week. The region saw highs of 30C over the weekend, and forecasts predict peak temperatures of 28C for the remainder of the week.
Record-Breaking Heat in 2026
According to the Liverpool Echo, 2026 has made climate history with a record eight days of temperatures exceeding 34°C, surpassing the previous record held by 1976 and 2020. It is also the first year in the UK weather record to see temperatures reach 35°C or higher in May, June, and July.
Beachgoers Enjoy the Sunshine
The ECHO photography team captured scenes of families and friends enjoying the sunshine at Crosby beach and in Liverpool city centre. RNLI lifeguards were on patrol at Crosby beach, while Everton Volleyball Club took to the sand for a game. Many people relaxed in St John's Gardens and Princes Dock in the city centre.
