The Prince of Wales's Earthshot Prize Awards are to stream on Prime Video for the first time. The celebratory gala, held in Mumbai, India's financial capital, on November 17, will feature actor Rami Malek, former cricketer Sachin Tendulkar, Bollywood stars Alia Bhatt and Sonam Kapoor, and Bridgerton's Simone Ashley.
Star-studded ceremony in Mumbai
Indian singer Shreya Ghoshal will perform for the 5,000 guests, with the ceremony hosted by filmmaker and presenter of The Traitors India, Karan Johar. At the start of the year, the King's documentary Finding Harmony: A King's Vision was launched exclusively on Prime Video, Amazon's streaming platform.
The decision to use Prime as Earthshot's broadcasting partner means the event will reach a global audience of more than 240 countries and territories, covering more than 40 languages.
Royal streaming rivals
William's brother the Duke of Sussex famously signed a deal with Amazon's rival Netflix, which led to the controversial series Harry & Meghan in which the couple laid bare their struggles with royal life. However, The Sun newspaper reported at the weekend that Amazon could be poised to sponsor Harry's Invictus Games in Birmingham next year.
In 2024, William and actress Hannah Waddingham featured in an Earthshot documentary which was screened on the BBC.
Performers and presenters speak out
Devil Wears Prada 2 star Ashley, who is also a musician and recently released her debut EP, said she was "thrilled" to be performing. "Bringing this global community together in India proves that real change happens when we unite with ambition, creativity, and optimism," she said.
Indian media personality Johar said: "This is more than an awards ceremony; it is a celebration of humanity's determination to heal the world, and India is ready to shine."
Prize details and famous supporters
The prince founded the environmental prize to recognise and scale up ideas to help repair the planet, with five winning finalists each awarded £1 million each year to develop their ideas. William is halfway through the £50 million, 10-year project.
He has managed to attract a host of famous names to the cause, from Hollywood actors Leonardo DiCaprio, Matthew McConaughey and Cate Blanchett to broadcaster and naturalist Sir David Attenborough and former prime minister of New Zealand Jacinda Ardern.
Awards are presented in five categories, or Earthshots: protect and restore nature; clean our air; revive our oceans; build a waste-free world; and fix our climate.
