A 3.7 magnitude earthquake struck 3.73 miles (6km) south of Granada, Spain, at 3.46pm local time (2.46pm BST) on 26 July 2026. The epicentre was in the town of Ogíjares at a depth of 6 kilometres, according to the Mediterranean Seismological Centre.
Locals described the tremors as intense. "It was rough here in Churriana de la Vega; I was asleep and went flying out of bed," said one resident 3km from the epicentre. Another commented: "There hasn't been one this intense since January 2021." A post on X read: "Yes, near traumatology it's been like an explosion, they've moved the floor and walls." Another local posted: "It has been intense. I thought the wardrobe was going to fall on me."
Aftershock Felt in Armilla
An aftershock of magnitude 1.7 and depth 6km was felt in Armilla, 4km from Granada city centre. Local reports also indicated that a 2.4 magnitude tremor was felt along the Costa Tropical, particularly in Lobres, Salobreña, Torrenueva and Vélez de Benaudalla.
