Around 70 firefighters, 11 fire engines, and four specialist wildfire units remain at the scene of a large moor fire near Dovestone reservoir, now in its fourth day. The blaze broke out at approximately 8:45pm on Saturday, July 11, and remains active, according to Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS).
Fire Status and Weather Impact
GMFRS reports that the fire is currently in a 'steady state' but progress throughout today, Tuesday, July 14, will be influenced by weather conditions. Crews are continuing to make progress, though the fire is not yet under control.
Road closures remain in place to ensure clear access routes for emergency vehicles. The public is urged not to travel to the area. Surrounding areas may be affected by smoke, with conditions likely to change depending on wind direction and weather patterns. Residents are advised to keep windows and doors closed where necessary and to consider reopening them when the smoke has moved away to allow properties to cool down.
Arson Charge
A woman has been charged in connection with the incident. Shania Care-Slede, 20, of Market Street, Hyde, faces charges of aggravated arson, being reckless as to whether life was endangered, and dangerous driving. She is due to appear at Manchester Magistrates Court today.
The fire service continues to monitor the situation and provide updates as conditions evolve.
