Jeremy Clarkson's farm, Diddly Squat, has been pictured after its harvest was decimated by drought conditions across the United Kingdom. New aerial images show the farm and its surrounding fields completely brown and yellow, with no green in sight except a row of trees in the distance. The ground around the farm shop is also dry and brown, with only tiny patches of green grass.
Drought Status and Health Alerts
Heat health alerts are set to come into place as the country braces for the fifth heatwave of the year. Almost three-quarters of England is in drought, with 71.3% of the country affected. The East Midlands, Lincolnshire & Northamptonshire, Kent & East Sussex, and Solent & the South Downs moved into drought status on August 10.
Hosepipe bans are in force across large parts of England and Wales, affecting almost 26 million people, including London, where Thames Water enforces a strict ban. Amber health warnings are in place across the country until 9pm on August 14, with a rise in deaths among those aged 65 or over and those with health conditions expected.
Clarkson's Reaction
Clarkson himself admitted this year's harvest is "f***ed" due to high temperatures and lack of rainfall. He wrote on Instagram: "Harvest already f***ed. May as well just enjoy it now," alongside a screenshot of the BBC Weather app. When a fan pointed out he still has Hawkstone beer to enjoy, he said: "Yes, but it's made from British barley and this year… Jesus."
The heatwave is expected to continue this week, with Thursday reaching 35 degrees Celsius in parts of the UK.
