Viral Frozen Grape Hack Keeps You Cool This Summer – It Works

As temperatures in the UK soar past 30°C, a viral TikTok hack claiming that frozen grapes can keep you cool has been put to the test. Senior Social News reporter Zahna Eklund tried the trick and reports that it really works, offering a refreshing alternative to ice cream for those watching their diet.

What Is the Frozen Grape Hack?

The hack, which has been hailed a 'game-changer' on social media, involves freezing grapes and eating them to cool down the body from the inside out. Unlike using frozen peas for a swollen knee, the grapes are consumed directly. Eklund discovered the tip during late-night TikTok scrolling and decided to test its effectiveness.

How to Freeze Grapes

Freezing grapes is straightforward. Simply place the punnet or bag in the freezer for a few hours. To prevent clumping, you can spread them on a tray before freezing, then transfer to a freezer-safe bag. Frozen grapes keep for three to 12 months and can be used in smoothies, as wine ice cubes, or eaten straight.

Do Frozen Grapes Actually Cool You Down?

According to Eklund, frozen grapes absolutely cool you down. The science behind it: when you eat something cold, heat from your body transfers to the cold food, reducing core temperature. Cold foods also chill blood as it circulates, especially when applied to areas with thin skin. Eklund found that frozen grapes helped reset her body temperature in the morning after a stuffy night and during the hottest part of the afternoon.

Tips for Eating Frozen Grapes

Let the grapes sit for a couple of minutes after removing from the freezer to soften slightly. This prevents hurting sensitive teeth and gives a slushie-like consistency without brain freeze. Do not thaw completely or they become mushy. Eklund recommends green grapes over red, as red grapes lost flavor when frozen while green grapes retained a slight sour taste.
