As spring arrives and households open their windows, ants often become unwelcome visitors. A viral TikTok hack claims to banish them using just two common kitchen ingredients: baking soda and sugar.
The method involves mixing equal parts baking soda and sugar. The sugar attracts the ants, while the baking soda reacts with water in their stomachs, causing a fatal chemical reaction. The ants then carry the mixture back to their nest, killing the entire colony.
To use, scatter the mixture directly at the ants' entry point if visible, or along skirting boards if not. The same technique is said to work on cockroaches, though they are less common in the UK.
Experts also recommend removing food sources by cleaning crumbs, spills, and wiping surfaces with vinegar water to destroy scent trails. This combination of baiting and hygiene can help keep ants at bay.
