Salmon Tastier When This Spice Is Added Before Baking

There are many ways to make salmon taste better before cooking it, but not many are as simple as this method. Salmon is a favourite for many Brits, and it is loved for its unique flavour. Salmon can be used for a plethora of dishes, but many households like to bake it to enjoy with some potatoes and vegetables.

If salmon is something you cook regularly at home, then you probably have a go-to method for making it taste as good as it can be. However, one common spice might be the thing you are missing. Salmon can be flavoured with many things, with some people simply using salt, pepper and lemon. Yet cumin might be the secret ingredient missing from your weekly baked salmon dish.

Why Cumin Works So Well

According to Blue Glacier, an expert salmon producer, cumin is one of the best spices you can add to salmon before you bake it in the oven. "There are few foods out there that feel as comforting as a warm plate of cumin-dusted salmon fillets," they explain. "The best part is, if you cook the salmon in a skillet, it shouldn’t take you more than 15 minutes to prepare! Just spray some olive oil on a preheated skillet, dust your fillets with the deliciously earthy ground cumin, and leave them for 5 minutes on each side, and voila. You’ve made yourself a healthy comfort food in no time."

They are not the only experts to recommend adding cumin to your salmon. GF Chow also recommends it, along with other common spices like paprika and olive oil. They then place the salmon in an oven on a high heat and let it crisp, cooking it for around eight to ten minutes.

Home Cooks Share Their Favourite Tips

While cumin is a simple way to flavour your salmon, the possibilities are actually rather endless. In many Reddit threads, home cooks have shared their top tips. One person shared: "I love Tajin (chilli lime salt) and a little fresh dill on salmon. It’s really tasty!"

Another said: "I really like salmon piccata. It's just salmon with a sauce made with chicken broth/stock, white wine, garlic, capers, parsley, and garlic."

A third wrote: "Sea salt, cracked pepper, cayenne and smoked paprika, rosemary and/or dill, old bay seasoning mix (can't make seafood without it), light coat of olive oil, lemon slices on top, in the oven or pan."

"Black pepper, lemon zest, dill, flaky salt. Simple, but awesome," said another.

Whether you choose cumin or another spice, enhancing your salmon before baking is quick and easy. Experiment with different combinations to find your perfect flavour.
