A former car showroom in Bury town centre could be converted into a children's indoor soft play centre. The proposal for the building on Derby Way, near The Rock shopping centre, includes seating, party rooms, and a café.
Booking system and capacity
Applicant Tessa Atkinson told Bury council that customers would book two-hour play slots starting at 30-minute intervals. This staggered system would 'avoid large numbers of visitors arriving or leaving at the same time' and 'help minimise' traffic impacts.
If approved, between 50 and 100 families could use the centre at any one time. The building's 67 parking spaces would be retained.
Building changes and benefits
No major external changes are proposed, though new signs and improved access are planned. The property has been vacant for over 12 months.
Miss Atkinson said the proposal would bring part of a large vacant commercial building back into productive use, delivering social, economic, and environmental benefits, and supporting community well-being.
