Scotland's islands are home to some of the country's most picturesque and idyllic towns and villages. To prove this point, the Daily Record has chosen a lovely settlement on a stunning island that was recently crowned one of the country's "best places to live" in 2026.
As reported by the Daily Record, Scotland's "best places to live" were named earlier this month by travel experts at WorldAtlas. One of the locations that was included on the prestigious list is the Isle of Arran in the Firth of Clyde, which is home to the beautiful town of Lamlash.
Location and Amenities
Situated around three miles south of Arran's main settlement and ferry port of Brodick, Lamlash is nestled in a sheltered bay on the island's eastern coast. It faces out towards the Holy Isle, which has long been considered a sacred site and is said to be home to a spring with healing properties.
Lamlash has many of Arran's most notable services and amenities, including the island's main hospital, high school, and local government offices. It is also where one of Arran's most renowned golf clubs can be found, with the Lamlash Golf Club featuring a breathtaking course with 18 holes.
Beauty Spots and Dining
There are also many beauty spots and scenic walks either in Lamlash itself or within close distance of the town. Lamlash Bay comprises a small beach of soft sand and offers particularly beautiful views out to the Holy Isle, while other picturesque spots that you can walk to include Clauchlands Point and Urie Loch.
Meanwhile, if you are after a hot meal and a refreshing drink after a day of exploring, look no further than The Pierhead Tavern. The friendly bar and restaurant serves up dishes such as haggis bon bons and duck confit, while it is also home to a roof garden where visitors can soak up some sun.
