Residents in Halewood can now view computer-generated images of the proposed redevelopment of Grace Park (Wood Road field), a project that aims to transform the park into a modern community hub.
Plans for Grace Park
The redevelopment, subject to planning permission, includes new all-weather football pitches with acoustic fencing to reduce noise for nearby homes, a dedicated children's zone, and a "plaza" designed as a focal point for community activities, connecting to Halewood Shopping Centre.
The children's zone will feature play equipment for eight to 13-year-olds, linked to a secure playground for younger children by an "adventure trail." There will also be a garden area with new trees, an informal green space, and new ponds and rain gardens to attract wildlife.
Improved accessibility and facilities
Pedestrians and cyclists will benefit from a path lined with seating, and a new car park with EV charging stations will be added. A new, modern clubhouse, managed by Halewood Juniors FC, will include a changing room, toilets, a café, and a social space.
Currently, the park is not easily accessible from the town centre and regularly floods, making it difficult for local people to use. The council also stated that the play equipment and sporting facilities are in need of an upgrade.
Investment and timeline
Cllr Shelley Powell, Knowsley Council Cabinet member for communities and neighbourhoods, said: "The proposals for Grace Park are integral to the overall investment in Halewood and will help connect the park to the town centre, making it easier for people to access and enjoy. We know how much our residents value our green spaces and I'm sure they will be excited by these plans for Grace Park."
The planning application will be considered by Knowsley's Planning Committee in September, with work expected to begin in early 2027 if approved. The plans are part of a £30m investment in Halewood, funded by £15.3m in government funding, £2.5m from the City Region Sustainable Travel Settlement, and £13m in Section 106 contributions from housing developers on the East of Halewood project.

This comes after a new play area at Tower Hill park in Kirkby opened to the public this week, featuring swings, inclusive and sensory equipment, large slides, and dynamic play elements. The playground was designed following a public consultation in September 2025, where people requested a junior area and a fenced toddler space.
Cllr Tony Brennan, Cabinet member for regeneration and economic development, said: "It's great to see this new play area in Tower Hill, provided by Section 106 developer contributions that is aligned to the needs of local people and enhances the local area. The design and equipment means there is something for all ages and I hope that residents and visitors to the park enjoy these new facilities."
