Pigeons may seem harmless, but their droppings and nesting habits can cause significant damage to gardens. According to experts from FantasticPestControl, a simple solution can deter these birds: tying a string near bird feeders.
The experts explain that strings tied one inch above nesting areas make landing uncomfortable for pigeons. This method, along with anti-roosting spike strips placed on window sills and ledges, can effectively discourage pigeons from settling in your garden.
Pigeons are known to spread over 50 types of ectoparasites and airborne diseases. They also shed feathers that can clog gutters, eaves, and air vents, leading to water accumulation.
To protect bird feeders from what experts call the 'bully bird', they recommend keeping pigeons away entirely. 'As soon as you stock your bird feeders, pigeons will arrive promptly, scaring off smaller birds and stealing food,' they said.
