Epsom Salt Trick for a Greener, Thicker Lawn This Summer
Epsom Salt Trick for a Greener, Thicker Lawn

Lawns can become thicker and greener when a common bathroom item is scattered on the grass. Epsom salt, available in most supermarkets, is a natural supplement that helps grass recover from summer heat and look more vibrant.

Why Epsom Salt Works

Epsom salt is not a cooking salt but a naturally occurring mineral rich in nutrients. It provides magnesium, which helps plants produce more chlorophyll, giving grass a deeper green hue. This also promotes photosynthesis, allowing grass to capture more sunlight and recover faster.

Enhanced chlorophyll production helps lawns retain moisture during warm weather, keeping grass thick and thriving, reducing the risk of brown patches.

How to Apply Epsom Salt

Mix one tablespoon of Epsom salt per litre of water, ensuring it is completely dissolved in a sprayer, spreader, or watering can before applying. The best time is morning or early evening, as afternoon sun can reduce water reaching the roots and may burn the grass.

Epsom salt should be used as a supplement, not a fertiliser replacement. Overuse can harm soil, so apply no more than once every six weeks; most lawns need only one treatment per season.
