White vinegar can banish mould from washing machine seals in just 10 minutes, according to specialists at Devon Appliances. The common kitchen staple is recommended as an effective and natural cleaning solution for tackling mould and residue around the rubber door seal.
Signs of mould buildup
Before cleaning, check for telltale signs that mould has developed. Black or dark-coloured marks around the rubber are the most obvious warnings, but not the only ones. A musty or damp smell from the drum, clothes that no longer smell fresh after washing, and visible dirt or residue hidden within the folds of the seal can all indicate the machine needs a thorough clean.
How to clean with vinegar
To tackle the mould, open the washing machine door and carefully pull back the rubber seal to expose areas where dirt and moisture have become trapped. Apply white vinegar directly to the affected areas, then use a cloth or soft brush to scrub thoroughly. Work into the folds of the seal rather than simply wiping the visible surface, as mould and grime can remain hidden there.
