Clyde Cycle Park in Cambuslang will host a special fun day on Saturday, July 4, to celebrate the one-year countdown to the Tour de France starting in Scotland. The free event, running from 10am to 4pm at the purpose-built track on Dale Avenue, offers a range of activities for all ages.
Activities and Highlights
Visitors can take part in cycling lessons, come-and-try events, bike servicing and security marking, and the venue's inaugural "park cycle" – a timed circuit inspired by Parkrun, beginning at noon. Other attractions include a children's cyclo-cross race, trials biking, free bike servicing from Dr Bike, a "bling your bike" station, and a smoothie bike where pedal power creates treats.
One Year to Go
The event marks the first time the Tour de France will visit Scotland, with the Grand Depart starting in Edinburgh in July 2027, heading through the Borders to Carlisle, then to Liverpool and Cardiff. Clyde Cycle Park chair John Bachtler said: "We want to make this a day to remember as we count down to Le Grand Depart of the Tour de France. Everyone knows about Parkrun; we are now launching our first ever Park Cycle as part of our open day, starting at 12 noon."
Facility Expansion
The park, which opened in 2022 with a 250m track, completed a £1.6 million second-phase extension late last year, creating a one-kilometre international-standard circuit – the only one of its size in the west of Scotland. The extension has hosted cycle clubs, school pupils, care home residents, and training sessions for runners, skaters, and skiers, and was featured on BBC's The One Show. Bachtler added: "It's an opportunity for anyone to bring their bike to the park and ride the one-kilometre circuit that was only finished at the end of 2025."
Community Spirit
Organisers encourage participation, saying: "No bike, no problem - come along, have a go and let's ride together." Participants can sign up for the park cycle via the Clyde Cycle Park website or on the day. The event also features stalls, music, and food and drink.
