Place Citrus Peels in Garden to Deter Wasps This July
Citrus Peels Deter Wasps in July Garden Hack

Placing citrus peels in your garden this July can help deter wasps from invading your home, according to gardening expert Ish, known as Gardening with Ish on Instagram. The strong, pungent smell of lemons, oranges, and limes contains natural oils that disrupt a wasp's scent receptors, making it difficult for them to track food or navigate.

How to Use Citrus Peels

Scatter fresh or dried peels directly on windowsills, near doors, or around outdoor eating areas to keep wasps away. For a spray, boil citrus peels in water for 15–20 minutes, cool, strain, and pour into a spray bottle. Spritz on table legs, under garden chairs, or near entryways. Reapply regularly for best results.

Other Natural Deterrents

In a video, Ish also recommended vinegar and water spray, used coffee grounds, or peppermint scent. He said: "They don't like the smell of vinegar either." However, citrus is commonly recommended for its effectiveness.

Limitations

Experts note the effect is localized and requires reapplication. While not foolproof, it yields great results when implemented properly.
