Emmerdale Star Reveals Unaired Same-Sex Romance Plot

Actress Gaynor Faye, who played Megan Macey on Emmerdale from 2012 to 2019, has revealed that a same-sex romance storyline for her character was planned but never made it to screen. Speaking to Zingo Bingo, Faye disclosed that producers discussed a potential relationship between Megan and Harriet Finch, played by Katherine Dow Blyton.

Planned Romance with Harriet Finch

Faye explained: "I remember when I was in Emmerdale. There was talk of me, me and another character having a relationship, me and Harriet [Finch]." She emphasized that love transcends labels, stating: "In the old-fashioned world, love is love. It's not a case of, suddenly they turned their sexuality. It's a case of you just falling in love with somebody. It would be good to see more storylines like that."

Megan Macey's Time in the Dales

During her seven-year stint, Megan was involved in dramatic storylines, including romances with Graham Foster (Andrew Scarborough) and Jai Sharma (Chris Bisson), as well as her daughter Eliza's cerebral palsy diagnosis. Megan left the village in 2019 to start a new life in Newcastle with Eliza.

Potential Return to Emmerdale

When asked about a possible return, Faye said: "I've not been asked to go back, to be honest. I left to go and do some theatre, but it's six years ago now. I was in it for seven [years] and I've been out of it six. I think I'd go back if there was a really good reason." She added that her daughter with Jai provides a potential route back, but she is "always about moving on, though I'd never say never."

Thoughts on the Corriedale Crossover

Regarding the recent crossover episode with Coronation Street, Faye admitted she didn't watch it but praised the concept: "I always thought that they should do it. I'm surprised they hadn't done it before, it’s only 40 miles down the M62." She encouraged more crossovers, saying: "It doesn't have to be a big thing. It could just be one person popping up in Weatherfield, or the other way around, somebody popping up in Houghton village - it doesn't have to be a massive crossover. It's fun."

Emmerdale airs weeknights at 8:00pm on ITV1 and ITVX.
