Amanda Owen Defends Farming Credentials After 'Pretend Farmer' Claims

Amanda Owen, the star of Channel 4's Our Yorkshire Farm, has hit back at critics who accuse her of being a 'pretend farmer'. The 51-year-old shepherdess took to Instagram to share a raw glimpse into the gritty reality of life on her farm, addressing doubters directly.

In a candid video, Owen revealed the stark contrast between glamorous celebrity appearances and the hard graft of farming. She described mucking out sheep pens in torrential rain the day after a glitzy event, and preparing numerous sheep for auction. 'For any people who say, 'She's not for real, she's just a pretend farmer,' sorry but these hands do tell a different story,' she wrote.

Owen's post included selfies, images of penned sheep, and a photo at Hawes auction mart. She emphasised the importance of grassroots farming, stockmanship, and keeping the nation fed, regardless of weather. 'Don't look the other way and pretend that we can manage without farmers, we can't,' she added.

Fans rallied behind Owen in the comments, with one writing: 'Been watching for years and following for a long time - she IS a real farmer and Lordy, she works hard!' Another said: 'Don't justify yourself to anyone, Amanda. What you do speaks for itself.'

Owen rose to fame alongside her former husband Clive and their nine children through the Channel 4 series, which has aired since 2018.
