Westport Veterinary Clinic in Linlithgow has expressed delight at the success of its annual Pet Trail Activity, which ran over ten days in June. The event involved hiding 10 lifelike cats and dogs in different business windows along Linlithgow High Street.
How the Trail Worked
Entry forms contained clues to help children find the local businesses involved and note down the name of each business and the name of the pet hiding in each window. The activity has remained popular this year, with all entries going into a prize draw.
The main prize was a VIP Vet Experience at the Linlithgow branch, along with a Bright Star Toy Shop voucher prize and each hiding pet was also won. Prize winners have been collecting their winnings over the school holidays, with each winner receiving a rosette and small activity goodies.
Organiser's Feedback
Carena Schmid, RVN and Community Development Nurse at Westport Veterinary Clinic, organises the activity each year. She said: “Feedback this year has been fantastic from parents and guardians who have expressed how much fun their kids have had finding the hiding pets.”
She added: “It’s also been wonderful to hear that the hiding pets have increased footfall in local businesses.” Schmid also noted that the VIP Vet Experience was drawn by Vet Yasmin, the voucher prize by RVN Victoria, and the pet winners by her border collie Miss Darcy.
Prize Draw and Thanks
Schmid said: “Every year I receive messages from parents to say the kids are most excited because the dog chose them as a winner - the reason we have continued doing the prize draw this way throughout the years. Darcy gets really excited picking the names so it’s a fun one to organise! It’s been lovely to see all the photos of happy winners with their prizes.”
Yasmin added: “A huge thank you to all of the businesses who took part this year, and a special thank you to Bright Star Toy Shop who had pet trail entry forms available in the shop, and for kindly donating the generous voucher prize. Sophie’s VIP Vet Experience will take place after the holidays with myself and RVN Carena at the Linlithgow branch, we are really looking forward to having her as our VIP Vet!”
