Barry-Murphy spent much of the close season away from Cardiff following the club's promotion-winning campaign. Shortly after the season ended, the Irishman traveled to Malaysia to meet owner Vincent Tan face-to-face for the first time, with recruitment and summer planning high on the agenda. He also visited his native Cork, a city Cardiff will revisit next month for pre-season. Players are expected to report back on June 29, marking the start of the countdown to the new Championship season.
Gareth Bale's Interest in Cardiff City
Gareth Bale has stated that Cardiff City remains close to his heart but emphasized that any future move to buy the club must be a sound business decision, not a "vanity project." The former Wales captain was part of a consortium that showed interest in buying Cardiff last summer, but owner Vincent Tan rejected the approach. Bale has now launched a sports investment fund with American private equity firm Juggernaut Capital Partners and remains keen to purchase a football club. Speaking to Front Office Sports, Bale said, "Of course, it's where I was born. It's close to my heart... But you also have to look at the business side and what's right to grow the club, to get it at the right price." He added that Cardiff is not off the table but stressed patience in finding the right opportunity.
Barry-Murphy Tipped for Top Management
Brian Barry-Murphy has been backed to reach the highest levels of management after being linked with the Ipswich Town job. Former Sunderland striker Kevin Phillips believes the Cardiff head coach is "destined for the top," though he feels a Premier League move might come too soon. Phillips wrote in his BettingSites.co.uk column, "Listen, he's done a fantastic job getting promoted... The jump to the Premier League is a different ballgame." He noted that Ipswich may benefit from a manager with top-flight experience but added, "That's no disrespect to Brian Barry-Murphy. I think he could do the job.
