A close friend of Ann Widdecombe has publicly declared that the former MP's murder was a 'political assassination,' casting doubt on the official investigation led by counter-terrorism police. Debi Evans made the explosive claim during an appearance on the Wide Awake Media podcast, stating that the circumstances surrounding Widdecombe's death 'stink.'
Friend's Bombshell Theory
Evans, a longtime confidante of the 78-year-old Reform UK minister, expressed deep skepticism about the case. 'None of it makes sense. The timeframe doesn't make sense. The whole thing, in my opinion, stinks. I don't believe a word of it,' she said. Evans added that Widdecombe had been preparing to release politically explosive information before her death. 'She was putting out very controversial stuff, and I do believe a lot of people are saying she was about to say something that was politically very big, it was dynamite basically.'
Investigation Details
Ann Widdecombe was found dead in her Dartmoor home on July 9, 2026. Police initially launched a murder investigation, which was later taken over by counter-terrorism officers. A 28-year-old man from Rotherham has been arrested on suspicion of preparation, commission or instigation of acts of terrorism. Officers are probing whether Widdecombe was bludgeoned to death in a premeditated attack linked to her political views. They believe the suspect may have considered her an 'easy target' compared to more prominent figures like Nigel Farage, who as a sitting MP has dedicated police protection under Operation Bridger.
Political Commentator Weighs In
Political commentator Alex Phillips also shared a bombshell theory on The Megyn Kelly Show, comparing Widdecombe's alleged killer to Islamist terrorists. Phillips described the attack as a 'terrorist incident' and criticized attempts to attribute it solely to mental health issues. 'A little old woman killed with a baseball bat in her kitchen. He drove 300 miles with that thing. It was premeditated,' Phillips said. She argued that the perpetrator was radicalized by left-wing ideologies, including DEI and critical race theory training, which she likened to 'brainwashing for authoritarianism.'
Ongoing Investigation
Counter-terrorism police continue to investigate the murder, with the suspect in custody. The case has sparked widespread debate about political violence and radicalization in the UK. Widdecombe, a former Tory MP and Strictly Come Dancing contestant, was a controversial figure known for her outspoken views on Brexit and social issues.
