Pregnant singer Nicola Roberts has announced she is being forced to withdraw from her West End role ahead of a necessary surgical operation.
Unexpected Health News Forces Show Exit
The Girls Aloud star, 40, shared a health update on her Instagram on Friday, revealing the difficult decision. Roberts currently stars as the goddess Persephone in the acclaimed musical Hadestown at London's Lyric Theatre. She explained that on medical advice, she will be unable to perform her final scheduled week in the production.
In an emotional post, the singer-songwriter expressed her profound disappointment. "I'm so sad and disappointed to have to share this news with you all," she wrote. "Today, I have learnt that I have to undergo a small surgical procedure and have been informed by my doctor that as a result, I will be unable to complete my final week of Hadestown shows."
A Dream Role Cut Short
Roberts emphasised that while "everything is okay", she is heartbroken not to finish her run. She paid tribute to her fellow cast members and the audiences she has performed for over the last five months.
"I have adored playing the role of Persephone, it has been a dream come true and to not be able to fulfil my final week and leave without a proper goodbye is a shock to me and upsetting," she continued. The star also apologised directly to fans who had made travel and ticket arrangements for her last week, stating the situation was "completely out of my control."
Joyful Pregnancy Announcement Precedes News
The news comes just weeks after Roberts shared happier personal updates. On Christmas Day, she announced on Instagram that she and her fiancé, former footballer Mitch Hahn, are expecting their first child.
She revealed she was five months pregnant at the time, with the baby due in the spring. The couple became engaged a year ago during a holiday in the south of France. Her celebrity friends, including Rochelle Humes and Jessie Ware, flooded the comments with congratulations following the pregnancy reveal.
Representatives for Nicola Roberts have been contacted for further comment regarding her surgery and subsequent recovery.
