Lauren Silverman, the wife of music mogul Simon Cowell, has publicly broken her silence on the experience of filming a Netflix documentary series with her husband, describing the process as 'terrifying'.
A Private Person in the Public Eye
The 48-year-old socialite, who has been with Cowell since 2013 and is believed to have recently married him, shared her feelings in a candid Instagram post on Tuesday. She accompanied the post with the trailer for the new series, Simon Cowell: The Next Act.
'My first Instagram post! Everyone who knows me, knows how private I am, so the past two years on this project has been such a new experience,' Lauren wrote. She explained that the show has been a family endeavour, stating, 'This is something we have been working on as a family every day, and I am SO proud of Simon and the whole team.'
Behind the Scenes of 'The Next Act'
The six-episode docuseries, set to launch on Netflix on December 10, follows Cowell's ambitious quest to find Britain's next major boyband. The 65-year-old music manager is seen navigating the chaos of open casting calls all the way through to the group's debut single release.
In the trailer, Simon admits the chance of success is 'less than 10 per cent', and the pressure is visibly immense. Scenes show a strained Cowell hooked up to an IV drip administering vitamins, over which Lauren expresses significant concern for his health and well-being.
The pressure culminates in a tense exchange where a visibly upset Lauren demands her microphone be removed and walks out on Simon. 'I never complain,' she is heard saying. 'I'm just there for you because that's what you do when you love somebody.'
A Partnership Forged Through Challenges
Lauren's worries are deeply rooted in Cowell's recent health battles. In August 2020, he broke his back testing an E-bike at his Malibu home, requiring a six-hour surgery. He suffered another E-bike accident two years later in London, breaking his arm.
The couple's relationship timeline is well-documented. They first met in Barbados in 2004 but did not start dating until around 2012. They welcomed their son, Eric, in 2014, got engaged in 2021, and Lauren's recent Instagram handle change to 'Simon Cowell' strongly hints they have since married.
This new Netflix project marks Cowell's latest venture since his departure from shows like The X Factor, with which he discovered acts like One Direction and Little Mix. He has signed a major deal with the streaming giant, claiming it fills a void left by record labels who are not signing enough new talent.
