Philanthropist Jonathan Ruffer cut the ribbon on Saturday, July 18, 2026, to officially open the long-awaited Storied Lands theme park in Bishop Auckland, County Durham. Members of the public entered the 7.5-acre site for the first time, greeted by live action performances already underway.
A New Full-Day Experience
The Storied Lands promises a unique day out inspired by history, myth and legend. Attractions include live productions such as Legend of the Wear and Land of the Vikings, immersive experiences like the Lost Feather, and recreated historic environments including a Viking Village. The park is an addition to the existing evening show produced by charity 11Arches, which has taken visitors on a journey through England's history for the past decade.
Multi-Million-Pound Investment
The theme park is the result of a multi-million-pound investment, with further expansions already approved by Durham County Council. According to park bosses, the site offers a full-day experience blending spectacular stunts, storytelling, and interactive elements.
Opening Day Highlights
On the opening day, visitors witnessed a blacksmith at work in the Viking Village, an eagle soaring across the sky at the Lost Feather, and a fiery finale during the Land of the Vikings show. Jonathan Ruffer, who spearheaded the project, personally welcomed the first guests.
