With GTA 6 due out in just over a month, a reader advises what to watch for in the final weeks of coverage. The gap between what Rockstar has said and what gets reported as fact remains wide, so they went back and checked Rockstar's actual statements against outlet claims.
What Rockstar Has Confirmed
Everything on this list comes directly from Rockstar, Take-Two, or Rockstar's official videos. The release date is November 19, 2026, set on November 6, 2025, and reaffirmed in Take-Two's 2026 earnings reporting and Rockstar's June pre-order announcement. The game is for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, with no PC or last-gen version announced. The setting is the state of Leonida, built around Vice City, shown in official trailers.
The protagonists are Lucia Caminos and Jason Duval. There are four official videos: Trailer 1 on December 4, 2023, Trailer 2 on May 6, 2025, an Extended Look on August 27, 2026, and the Launch Trailer on October 15, 2026. The Standard Edition costs £69.99, and the Ultimate Edition costs £89.99, announced on June 24, 2026, with pre-orders opening June 25. The Ultimate Edition adds premium vehicles, weapons, and apparel and is digital only. The boxed standard copy holds a download code, not a disc. Pre-orders before November 20 get the Vintage Vice City Pack, and digital pre-orders include a free month of GTA+.
Pre-load begins November 12, a full week before launch. On September 17, 2026, Rockstar and Atlantic Records announced Grand Theft Auto 6: The Album, with 34 original tracks releasing November 19. Six singles came out the same day from artists including Travis Scott, Yung Lean, Morgan Wallen, Rauw Alejandro, and Keith Richards, plus a collaboration featuring PinkPantheress. Justice composed the original score, and their single Flower in a Hurricane debuted in the launch trailer.
Grey Areas in Coverage
Two topics sit in a grey zone. Rockstar has published no map or measurements in kilometres, but during an August preview visit, Rockstar North co-head Rob Nelson told YouTuber TGG that the map is twice the size of GTA 5's and three times the playable area of Red Dead Redemption 2's, with Vice City itself twice the size of Los Santos. This is a spoken comparison, not a published spec, so treat square kilometre figures as fan maths.
Rockstar has not published a frame rate spec. Nelson said console builds are currently running at 30fps, and whether a 60fps option arrives at launch or later is undecided. The Extended Look footage was also 30fps, so headlines claiming 60fps is locked in contradict what Rockstar has said.
The Delay Timeline
GTA VI has been delayed twice. The original window was announced as '2025' in December 2023, later specified as autumn 2025. On May 2, 2025, Rockstar pushed the game to May 26, 2026. On November 6, 2025, Rockstar moved it again to November 19, 2026, a date that holds through Take-Two's earnings reporting and the June pre-order announcement. That is roughly a year of total slippage from the original window.
Unconfirmed Claims
Several items get reported as settled but are not confirmed by Rockstar. The PC release is unannounced, with Take-Two's chief executive only saying more announcements will come in due course. Square kilometre map figures like '83 square kilometres' or '125 square kilometres' come from fan maths on trailer footage, not from Rockstar. A guaranteed 60fps mode is undecided, and leaks and insider story details without named sources should be treated as unverified.
In the final five weeks, watch for a review embargo date, which Rockstar has not announced, and the pre-load file size, which may appear on store pages. Launch events and day one patch notes are only real news if Rockstar announces them. The pattern is simple: real news has a source you can name.
The rumour mill is not always wrong, but treating claims as confirmed leads to people booking time off work, pre-ordering the wrong edition, or buying a console for features never promised. Coverage should report exactly what Rockstar said and where, no more and no less.
