House of the Dragon Season 3 premieres today, June 22, on Sky Atlantic, NOW, and HBO Max UK & Ireland. The new season picks up directly after Season 2, which aired in 2024. With eight episodes airing weekly, the series continues to adapt George R.R. Martin's Fire & Blood. The conflict between the Greens and Blacks intensifies as Rhaenyra Targaryen (Emma D'Arcy) seeks the Iron Throne.
Alicent and Rhaenyra's Peace Deal
Alicent Hightower (Olivia Cooke) traveled to Dragonstone to broker a peace deal with Rhaenyra. She agreed to surrender the Red Keep and King's Landing to prevent further bloodshed. As part of the deal, Alicent consented to sacrifice her son Aegon II Targaryen (Tom Glynn-Carney) to ensure Rhaenyra's uncontested rule.
Aegon and Larys Flee King's Landing
Larys Strong (Matthew Needham) secretly escorted Aegon from King's Landing, convincing him to flee to Essos for safety. Larys feared for Aegon's life after his brother Aemond (Ewan Mitchell) attempted to kill him at the Battle of Rook's Rest. Aemond subsequently ruled in Aegon's stead while the king was severely injured. This escape potentially undermines Alicent's deal with Rhaenyra.
Daemon's Time at Harrenhal
After a dispute with Rhaenyra over the Blood and Cheese incident—where a Targaryen infant was killed on his orders—Daemon (Matt Smith) left Dragonstone. He spent most of Season 2 at Harrenhal, rallying support from the Riverlands. Haunted by ghosts, he received visions from the witch Alys Rivers (Gayle Rankin), including glimpses of Daenerys Targaryen and the White Walkers.
Aemond Takes Power
While Aegon recovered, Aemond seized control and sent Tyland Lannister (Jefferson Hall) to Essos to negotiate with the Triarchy. Alicent grew fearful of Aemond's lust for power, foreseeing more bloodshed.
Tyland's Deal with the Triarchy
Tyland enlisted the Triarchy to break the blockade in the Gullet, which prevented supplies from reaching King's Landing. He won over the pirate leader Sharako Lohar (Abigail Thorn) through challenges, including mud wrestling. Sharako agreed to help, motivated by the chance to fight her old foe Corlys Velaryon (Steve Toussaint).
Rhaenys' Death
Rhaenys Velaryon (Eve Best) was killed at the Battle of Rook's Rest when she confronted Aemond, leaving her husband Corlys grieving.
New Dragonriders for Rhaenyra
After losing many dragonriders, Rhaenyra recruited illegitimate Targaryen offspring with dragon blood: Hugh Hammer (Kieran Bew), Ulf (Tom Bennett), and Addam of Hull (Clinton Liberty). They will fight for her in Season 3.
Blood and Cheese
In a disturbing scene, Daemon sent assassins to kill Aemond, but they instead killed toddler Prince Jaehaerys Targaryen after failing to find their target.
Otto Hightower Removed
After clashing with Aegon, Otto Hightower (Rhys Ifans) was dismissed as Hand of the King, replaced by Ser Criston Cole (Fabien Frankel).
Mysaria Aligns with Rhaenyra
Mysaria (Sonoya Mizuno) thwarted an assassination attempt on Rhaenyra, earning her trust. The two grew close, sharing a kiss, and Mysaria became a trusted advisor.
The Wild Dragon
Rhaena Targaryen (Phoebe Campbell) took Rhaenyra's young sons to the Vale for safety. There, she discovered a wild dragon, hoping to claim it after failing with older dragons.
House of the Dragon Season 3 premieres June 22 at 2am BST on Sky Atlantic, NOW, and HBO Max UK & Ireland.
