Ella Bruccoleri, best known for playing Sister Frances in BBC's Call the Midwife, has revealed that she was 'miserable' watching her early television work. The 36-year-old actress admitted she struggled to see herself on screen during her first year of acting, saying, 'I don't think that looks like me'.
Bruccoleri recently took the lead role in BBC One's The Other Bennet Sister, a spin-off from Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice. The series, adapted from Janice Hadlow's novel, focuses on Mary Bennet, the overlooked middle sister. Critics have praised Bruccoleri's performance as 'absolutely lovely'.
Since leaving Call the Midwife in 2022, Bruccoleri has appeared in Netflix's Bridgerton and the Strangers horror film trilogy. She also had roles in All Creatures Great and Small and The Last Kingdom. Despite her success, she admitted to the New York Times that watching her early episodes made her 'miserable'.
Bruccoleri also revealed that she is a secret member of a band, though she did not disclose details. She told the Radio Times that leaving Call the Midwife was 'crazy' but necessary for variety. 'I love the variety of different things,' she said.
The Other Bennet Sister and Call the Midwife are available on BBC iPlayer.
