Actress Gillian Anderson has been honoured with a new waxwork at Madame Tussauds in London, featuring the very same striking gown that sparked a global conversation at the 2024 Golden Globe Awards.
The Sex Education star personally unveiled the figure, which is clad in the cream-coloured, corseted Gabriela Hearst creation famously embroidered with vulva designs. Anderson has declared that the display "represents empowerment for women" and celebrates bodily autonomy.
From Red Carpet to Museum Attraction
In a remarkable gesture, the iconic dress itself has been donated to the attraction for the waxwork to wear. The ensemble is completed with diamante jewellery, metallic platform heels, and a matching bag, perfectly capturing Anderson's memorable awards night look.
Anderson admitted to initial hesitation about the tribute, questioning whether people would want to see a waxwork of her on a red carpet rather than in character. "Then I thought about this dress and realised, yes, it makes sense to re-create this moment at the Golden Globes," she explained.
A Conversation-Starting Garment
The actress reflected on the unexpected viral impact of her sartorial choice. "The dress became a much bigger conversation than even I had anticipated," Anderson said, noting the overwhelmingly positive reactions from the public.
She elaborated on the dress's deeper significance, stating her hope that it would allow visitors to "stand next to it and revel in the audacity of it." The figure now stands in the attraction's awards party zone, joining other celebrities like Timothée Chalamet, Harry Styles, and Zendaya.
Steve Blackburn, General Manager at Madame Tussauds London, expressed his delight at welcoming Anderson to their "star-studded line-up," praising her as a "perfect modern-day icon." He commended his team's skill in recreating every detail of her look and acknowledged designer Gabriela Hearst for the generous donation of the dress.
The American-born actress, who lives in the UK, first rose to fame as Agent Dana Scully in The X-Files and is set to appear next in Netflix's forthcoming Western drama, The Abandons.
