Dylan Mulvaney Cast as Anne Boleyn in Broadway's 'Six' After Bud Light Fallout
Dylan Mulvaney to Make Broadway Debut in 'Six' Musical

Social media personality Dylan Mulvaney, whose 2023 promotional deal with Bud Light ignited a nationwide controversy and a severe sales slump for the brewer, has been cast in a leading role on Broadway.

From Social Media Storm to the Broadway Stage

Mulvaney, 29, will make her Broadway debut playing Anne Boleyn, the second wife of King Henry VIII, in the hit musical Six. Performances begin on February 16 as part of the production's new cast rotation, dubbed '#SIXBroadway 5.0'.

The casting was announced by the show's official social media accounts with a playful post stating, 'Losing our heads to introduce your newest Anne Boleyn! Show some royal love to Queen Dylan Mulvaney.'

A Musical Celebrating 'Girl Power'

Six is a Tony Award-winning musical that reimagines the six wives of Henry VIII as a modern pop girl group. The show, which has run on Broadway since 2021, aims to reclaim the women's stories from the shadow of their infamous husband, presenting a narrative of female empowerment and '21st-century girl power'.

Written by Toby Marlow and Lucy Moss, the production has become the longest-running show in the history of New York's Lena Horne Theatre and won the 2022 Tony Award for Best Original Score.

Mulvaney's Reaction and Past Controversy

On Instagram, Mulvaney expressed her elation about the role. 'Yay Broadway!' she wrote. 'So happy my bway debut is playing a fellow polarizing woman in this perfect musical next month. I hope you will all come watch me live my dream. I am SO HAPPY I CAN'T STOP SMILING.'

This career milestone arrives almost three years after a marketing campaign with Bud Light triggered a significant backlash. In April 2023, Mulvaney, a transgender influencer, posted images with a custom beer can featuring her face to mark her first full year of transition.

The promotion detonated a firestorm of conservative outrage, amplified across social media and news outlets, which rapidly grew into a full-scale boycott. The financial fallout was stark: by early 2024, Bud Light sales had fallen nearly 30 percent, costing the brand its position as America's top-selling beer. Harvard Business School researchers later termed it 'one of the biggest boycotts in American history.'

Mulvaney has since defended the partnership, calling the backlash unexpected and deeply personal. In a March 2025 appearance on The View, she said, 'I loved beer and didn't think anything of it.'

Prior to this Broadway break, Mulvaney starred in the off-Broadway solo show The Least Problematic Woman in the World last September. She rose to fame by documenting her gender transition in the viral TikTok series Days of Girlhood, amassing over 1.5 million followers.
