Six the Musical Producers Restrict X Account After Dylan Mulvaney Casting Sparks Bullying

Producers of the Broadway musical Six have taken action to limit access to the show’s X account after the casting of transgender performer Dylan Mulvaney triggered online bullying. The 29-year-old influencer and actress, who is transgender, announced earlier this month that she will make her Broadway debut playing Anne Boleyn in the musical, which reimagines the six wives of Henry VIII as a girl group.

Shortly after the announcement, the show faced significant backlash on social media, with critics on X questioning Mulvaney’s suitability for a historical female role. Others accused the critics of transphobia. In response, the producers made the @sixbroadway account private as of January 21, requiring follower requests to be approved, and issued a statement condemning the abusive comments.

“The producers of Six have chosen to temporarily limit access to the Broadway production’s X account following a number of comments made in response to recent Broadway casting news, which we felt crossed the line into bullying,” the statement read. “While we welcome passionate engagement with the show, aggressive, threatening, or abusive behavior is never acceptable.”

Mulvaney, who previously appeared in the national tour of The Book of Mormon, addressed the criticism in an Instagram video filmed during her first rehearsal. She described her casting as “a miracle” given the challenges faced by trans people in 2026. “If I had to go viral and find myself in a far-right media firestorm and spend many years and many tears wondering why that was happening, I would do it all over again if it meant that I got to be on stage,” she said.

Mulvaney is set to take the stage from February 16, joining cast members Abigail Barlow, Adrianna Hicks, Anna Uzele and Olivia Donalson. The producers reaffirmed their commitment to fostering a respectful environment, stating they are “incredibly excited to welcome our incoming Broadway cast.”
