Fox Entertainment president David Madden has confirmed that a third season of the anthology horror series Wayward Pines remains a possibility, despite the show having ended its second season run over a year ago. Speaking at the Television Critics Association press tour, Madden revealed that creator M. Night Shyamalan has discussed potential ideas for a new season with Fox executives.
“We don’t know yet,” Madden said when asked about the show’s future. “M. Night has talked to both Dana and me recently about the possibilities of what a third season could be. We are exploring story and casting ideas; we haven’t made any decisions.”
Developed by Chad Hodge from Blake Crouch’s novels, Wayward Pines performed strongly on DVR during its first season, but ratings declined in the second. The first season starred Matt Dillon, while Jason Patric led the cast for season two. Hodge ran the first season before departing to work on TNT’s Good Behavior, with Mark Friedman taking over for season two.
Fans have expressed frustration over the unresolved cliffhanger ending of season two, with many taking to social media to plead for the show’s return. However, some remain sceptical, noting that Fox may be reluctant to invest in a third season given the ratings drop. No official decision has been announced.
