The Madison and Yellowstone: No Connection Confirmed by Paramount
The Madison, the heartfelt neo-Western drama created by Yellowstone boss Taylor Sheridan, has made its emotional debut on Paramount Plus. Starring big names like Kurt Russell and Michelle Pfeiffer, the series follows the Clyburn family as they travel from New York City to Montana following a devastating tragedy, attempting to rebuild their lives with emotional respite.
Initial Confusion Over Yellowstone Crossover
Yellowstone fans have been confused about potential crossover moments between the two series. In May 2023, Paramount greenlit The Madison, with reports at the time suggesting it was a Yellowstone spin-off sequel, and Matthew McConaughey was supposedly in talks to star. However, Paramount has now confirmed there is no link between the new series and Yellowstone, which began airing in 2020.
Despite many initial reports selling it as a Yellowstone spin-off, the network has clarified that The Madison is an entirely unrelated series. In August 2024, Pfeiffer was announced to be leading the series, dispelling rumours of McConaughey's involvement. Even in late 2025, when Hollywood star Russell's casting announcement was made, various US titles referred to the show as a Yellowstone spin-off.
Similarities and Differences Between the Shows
It was not until early 2026 that reports started dropping the Yellowstone connection. The only two similarities between the two shows are that they were both created by Taylor Sheridan, and they were both predominantly set and filmed in Montana. Besides the setting, the story and characters have no connection to the Yellowstone series, which followed the Dutton family as they fought to protect their beloved ranch.
The Madison's Clyburn family are not descendants of the Duttons, nor are they familiar with the Yellowstone family in any capacity. Filming for The Madison took place in Montana from September to October 2024, with scenes set in New York City filmed in Dallas in mid-November 2024. Production moved to Fort Worth, Texas, in late November.
