Strictly Fans Note Sad Detail as Wright-Phillips in Dance-Off

The week five results of Strictly Come Dancing placed Shaun Wright-Phillips and his partner Alexis Warr, along with Jamie Winstone and Carlos Gu, in the dance-off. The bottom two was decided by the public vote combined with the judges' scores. Jamie and Carlos performed their Foxtrot again, while Shaun and Alexis danced their Jive.

Birthday Blues for Shaun

Before the dance-off, viewers noted a sad detail on social media: it was Shaun's birthday. The former England footballer turned 45 on the night of the results. Chelsea FC posted a birthday message to their former player on Instagram, where fans left well-wishes.

One viewer commented: "It's Shaun's birthday today too..." Another shared: "I know Shaun finds it so difficult, and his face and body language speak volumes. I do feel sorry for him, but I think he will be relieved if he gets voted off tonight."

Judges' Split Decision

Both couples had been in the dance-off before: Shaun in week three and Jamie in week four. Fans were also disappointed to see Jamie and Carlos in danger again. One viewer posted: "I'm heartbroken for her! I don't know why the public don't seem to warm to her, she is brilliant." Another added: "No way did Jamie's dance deserve to be in the dance-off."

The judges were split. Craig Revel Horwood, Motsi Mabuse, and Anton Du Beke voted to save Jamie and Carlos, while Shirley Ballas chose Shaun and Alexis. Shirley explained: "I enjoyed both performances this evening, but one couple really took their dance to a different level from Saturday night, and the couple that I would like to save is Shaun and Alexis." Anton, casting the deciding vote, said: "Shaun, your quest for professional dancing will have to wait a bit longer, because I am going to save Jamie and Carlos."

Jamie and Carlos Advance

With the judges' decision finalised, Jamie and Carlos advance to next week's Halloween special on Saturday October 31.
