Strictly Come Dancing Producers Plan Major Presenter Overhaul
BBC executives behind Strictly Come Dancing are reportedly planning a significant presenter shake-up, with plans to introduce a new male co-host as part of a refreshed presenting trio. This move would mark a return to the traditional format featuring both male and female main hosts, reminiscent of the era when Bruce Forsyth helmed the popular dance competition.
Three Leading Contenders Emerge for Coveted Role
Industry sources indicate the shortlist has been narrowed to three prominent television personalities: Bradley Walsh, Rylan Clark, and current Strictly professional dancer Johannes Radebe. Producers are said to be preparing to conduct screen tests with their preferred candidates in the coming weeks to determine the best fit for the high-profile position.
Bradley Walsh, known for his charismatic presenting style on The Chase and various entertainment programs, is reportedly favored by some executives who see similarities with Bruce Forsyth's approach. "The show's executive producers feel Bradley has a similar style to Bruce — he can tell jokes, sing and has lots of charisma," a source revealed to The Sun.
Rylan Clark brings extensive experience with the Strictly franchise, having previously hosted the popular spin-off show It Takes Two, along with a substantial fan following from his television work. Meanwhile, Johannes Radebe offers deep expertise as a current professional dancer on the program, providing insider knowledge of the competition's mechanics.
Female Presenter Speculation Intensifies
Alongside the search for a male co-host, speculation continues about who will fill the female presenting roles. Zoe Ball and Emma Willis have emerged as strong contenders according to recent reports, with sources suggesting it's "a straight shoot-out between Zoe, who is the front-runner, and Emma. Only one will get it, not both."
Zoe Ball, who previously hosted Strictly's It Takes Two until 2021, has publicly expressed interest in the position. "Obviously there's part of me that would love to do it," she admitted. "I love that show. I loved performing on it with Ian Waite, who is one of my best buddies. It's so joyful." However, she acknowledged the significant challenge of following Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman, noting "it's live telly, which is another thing that people don't give the girls enough credit for. That show is a beast."
Format Changes and Production Considerations
Sources indicate producers are seeking a balanced presenting team that combines traditional hosting skills with more unconventional approaches. "The senior execs want a traditional presenter working alongside a more left-field person, a female stand-up comedian," an insider explained. "It's felt the humour Claudia brought to the show, particularly in her 'Claudatorium', needs to carry on."
The presenter changes come after Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman stepped back from their roles following the conclusion of the most recent series in December. The BBC has not officially commented on the speculation surrounding the presenter lineup for the upcoming season of the beloved dance competition.
Emma Willis, best known for hosting The Voice and Love Is Blind UK, recently took over Zoe Ball's BBC Radio 2 afternoon slot after Ball stepped down from the position after just seven months. This scheduling change has fueled speculation about both presenters' availability for the demanding Strictly hosting duties, which would require significant weekend commitments during the show's broadcast season.
