Strictly Come Dancing Overhaul: Spin-Off Show Goes Vodcast for 20th Anniversary

The BBC has announced a major overhaul for Strictly Come Dancing's 20th anniversary, including a new spin-off show that will be released as a vodcast. The move marks a significant shift in how the beloved dance competition's content is delivered, with the spin-off set to offer a fresh format for fans.

Details of the vodcast remain under wraps, but the BBC has promised it will be a 'very special programme' that celebrates two decades of the show. Kalpna Patel-Knight, Head of Entertainment at the BBC, said: 'Throughout its 20-year history, the show has launched careers, sparked trends, and touched the hearts of millions with its dazzling performances, emotional journeys, and unforgettable moments.'

The announcement comes as Strictly continues to enjoy critical acclaim, having won the BAFTA TV Award for Best Entertainment for the third time this year. The show first launched on BBC One in May 2004 and has since become a staple of British television.

In addition to the vodcast, former Strictly professionals Brendan Cole, Ian Waite, James Jordan, Pasha Kovalev, and Vincent Simone have announced a joint tour titled 'Legends of the Dance Floor'. The 18-date tour will run from October 1 to 22, including a performance at London's Adelphi Theatre on October 8.

Brendan Cole, who won the first series with Natasha Kaplinsky, expressed his excitement: 'We are going to produce something very special and very unique.' Pasha Kovalev, who won with the late Caroline Flack, added: 'We are going back to our roots, back to traditional ballroom and Latin dancing.'

Further details about the anniversary spin-off vodcast are expected to be confirmed in due course.
