The executive producer of ITV's continuing drama has dashed hopes of further crossovers between Coronation Street and Emmerdale, following the upcoming Corriedale special. Iain MacLeod confirmed that while the two soaps now exist in the same fictional universe, there are no plans for future inter-show events.
Speaking after a panel for the crossover premiere, MacLeod explained that the stories emerging from the event will run parallel but not literally cross over. 'People love Corrie and people love Emmerdale, and they are distinct entities,' he said. 'They have their own tone and voice and sense of humour, and they wouldn't together blend long term.'
Despite the lack of future crossovers, cast members from both soaps expressed joy at working together. Emma Atkins, who plays Charity Dingle, said: 'I had a scene with Julia and Jack, and watching them do their stuff... you kind of have to embrace every moment.' Jack P Shepherd added that sharing scenes with legends like Eric Pollard and Ken Barlow was a highlight.
Danny Miller, who plays Aaron Dingle, noted the camaraderie on set, revealing a surprising perk for Corrie actors: 'They get free toast!' He added that filming on location in Yorkshire made the collaboration feel natural, as both casts were away from their usual studios.
The Corriedale special, featuring a fiery car pile-up, airs next week. Fans can still vote on interactive scenes to appear in the final episode, with voting closing 15 minutes before Monday's broadcast.
