The second royal wedding of 2026 is taking place today as Lady Marina Windsor, granddaughter of the Duke of Kent, marries Nico Macauley in a private ceremony at a country estate in Berkshire. The 33-year-old royal, who is not a regular fixture at Royal Family events, announced her engagement on Instagram last June with a simple caption: "Very happy."
Background and Family
Lady Marina Charlotte Alexandra Katharine Helen Windsor was born on September 30, 1992, at the Rosie Hospital in Cambridge. She is the eldest daughter of the Earl and Countess of St Andrews, the younger sister of Edward Windsor, Lord Downpatrick, and the elder sister of Lady Amelia Windsor. Her grandparents are Prince Edward, Duke of Kent, and the late Katharine, Duchess of Kent.
Education and Conversion
At age 13, she began studying at St Mary's School, Ascot, before pursuing French and Portuguese at the University of Edinburgh. Until 2008, Lady Marina was 25th in line to the British throne. However, she forfeited her place when she was confirmed into the Roman Catholic Church, along with her elder brother. Her younger sister, Lady Amelia, has not converted and remains in the line of succession.
Engagement and Well-Wishes
The couple revealed their engagement on June 8, a date with special significance as it marked the wedding anniversary of her grandparents, the Duke and late Duchess of Kent. Extended members of the Royal Family commented on the announcement. Her brother, Lord Downpatrick, wrote: "So the hazing begins," while her sister Lady Amelia exclaimed: "Yippeeee!" Princess Alexandra's granddaughters also sent support: Zenouska Mowatt wrote "Love youuuuuu my babes," and Flora Vesterberg added "Love you! Happiest news xx."
